Why Should Video Be a Key Part of Your Marketing Mix?

Whether you already have a small business or you're just starting out, you have one very clear goal, and no matter what shape or form it's in, it will come down to one main idea.

You need customers, and you need sales, and the trick to success is figuring out how to do just that without, you know, spending your entire life savings.

The good news is video marketing is one of the most effective ways to get your brand in front of potential customers, but is it for you? Is it something you can afford and should be using?

If so, why so?

And how?

Let's get into it.

So, why use videos in marketing?

Well, video is one of the most popular forms of content on the internet. In fact, according to LAI Video's Interview with Facebook, Google, and SpaceX executive Dex Torricke-Barton, 80% of today’s internet traffic is video content!

That's a MASSIVE amount of video, but it’s not really that hard to believe when you see just how much video content there is on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube every day. And don't forget the hard rise of live streaming.

But, as a small or new business, if you're not using video as part of your marketing strategy, you're missing out on a HUGE opportunity to get your brand in front of potential customers.

Video is simply a great way to grab people's attention.

In a world where we're constantly bombarded with commercial advertising of all mediums, it can be hard to stand out from the crowd, yet video remains one of the best ways to do just that.

Studies actually show that viewers will retain 95% of a video’s message compared to the text version, a statistic that just can’t be ignored.

So not only can video help you reach more people, it can also help ensure that those people pay attention to what you're saying. And when you consider that the average person's attention span is just 8 seconds, that's a pretty big deal.

But Martin, what about the cost?!

You raise an excellent question.

Video marketing can be expensive; there are no two ways about it. But the good news is that it can be budget-friendly and powerful as long as you approach it the right way.

Let's say you have your idea.

It's probably big, bold, and beautiful, and you can see it all in your head. But how do you get it down on paper/screen? You could try and do it yourself, but you need to be a video editing wizard with years of experience for it to turn out the way you want it to. And even if it does, it's going to take you forever, and by the time you're finished, you'll be so sick of the sight of it that you'll never want to watch it again, let alone show it to anyone else.

It costs money, and if a shot doesn't work out, you have to reshoot it, and the list goes on.

Here's how you make it affordable.

First, get your product.

Take some nice shots of it going round in a circle or whatever it is you want to do with it.

(eg. drop a slice of lemon in your glass of Coca-Cola and stick it in slow-motion. That kind of thing.)

Then, write your text of everything you want to say and get a beautifully sounding Martin (hey, that's the same name as mine!) to read it out in a voiceover that's gonna give your customers the tingles they need to get interested in what you have to say.

The key when creating video marketing content is to make it short, sweet, and to the point.

No one wants to watch a video that's 5 minutes long when they could read an article in half the time, so get your message across as quickly as possible.

30 seconds? A minute?

Many recommend between five and 15 seconds as the sweet spot (I know, attention spans are all over the place these days). Which means you've taken a previously expensive, long-form video idea and turned it into an affordable, punchy, and impactful ad that's gonna get those views.

Why is video important for marketing? A quick recap.

Very simply... it works!

But also, it gives you a chance to show your brand's personality - it's human side. Just like here, with my stupid TikTok videos.
