Voiceover Demo Production for Voice Artists
Your demo reel is your shop window, your business card and your sometimes even your audition... all squeezed into about 90 seconds. If it doesn’t sound up to scratch casting directors, agents and clients will move on to the next voice before the first clip is finished.
I’m Martin Whiskin, an award-winning British voiceover artist, and I produce broadcast-quality voiceover demos for new and working voice artists.
Everything is done remotely: you record from wherever you are, alone or with me or my director directing you live, then I edit, mix and master a demo reel that sounds like it belongs on air, because I know exactly what the people hiring you expect to hear.
It’s what clients like the BBC, Visa, LEGO and the NHS have expected from me.

What is a voiceover demo reel?
A voiceover demo is a short, produced montage of clips showcasing your range, tone and delivery. It's what you can do. For comparison, a voiceover showreel is a compilation of work you have done.
It’s the first (and often only) thing agents, casting sites and clients listen to before deciding whether to book you. A strong demo sounds like a series of excerpts from real, finished jobs: professional scripts, broadcast-quality audio, and music and sound design that match each genre.
A demo recorded and mixed by someone who doesn’t work in the industry tends to sound exactly like that. Production quality is judged in the first ten seconds, sometimes less.
When I first started to move into production, I did a lot of research and it's not an exaggeration to say there are a lot of demo producers out there charging lots of money for a bad product. There. I said it.

What’s included in my demo production service
Every demo is built from scratch around your voice. No templates, no recycled scripts, no stock formula. You get:
-
Bespoke scripts if you need them (many VOs write their own). They'll be written to suit your natural sound and the genres you want to work in (no copied adverts, which casting sites and copyright law both frown upon).
-
A remote directed session if you want to. I can direct you live over Cleanfeed while you record, coaxing out reads you might not have thought of before. Optionally I work with a director who's been in the industry for 40 years who charges an hourly rate.
-
Full audio production including editing, mixing, adding licensed music and sound effects, and mastering to broadcast standard.
-
A complete reel plus individual clips, which are increasingly useful these days. Delivery in MP3 and WAV, formatted and sized for casting sites, agent submissions and your own website.
-
3 rounds of revisions so the final demo is one you’re proud to send anywhere and probably everywhere!
How the remote demo production process works
The whole thing happens online, wherever you are in the UK or beyond. Here’s how it goes:
-
Discovery chat. A free, no-pressure conversation about your voice, your goals and the genres you’re targeting like commercial, narration, corporate, gaming, e-learning, etc.
-
Script preparation. You can bring your own scripts, or use I have a writer to create pieces that play to your strengths and sound like real client work.
-
Directed recording session. You record from your home studio while I direct you live via Cleanfeed. I’ll guide your pacing, tone and delivery in real time, exactly as a producer would on a professional session. OR you can record home alone. OR we can bring in a director.
-
Production. I edit your best takes, then mix them with licensed music and sound design so each clip sounds like a finished, on-air job.
-
Review and revisions. You listen, we tweak, you approve.
-
Delivery. Your full reel and individual clips land in your inbox, ready to upload. Typical turnaround is usually 2 weeks from session to delivery, depending on workload.
Types of voiceover demo I produce
Most artists start with one demo (usually commercial or narration) and add others as their career grows. I produce:
Examples of demos produced
Why have your demo professionally produced?
Because everyone you send it to has heard thousands of them. Agents and casting directors can spot a home-made demo instantly: uneven levels, room echo, music that fights the voice, scripts that ramble. Fairly or not, they take production quality as a signal of how professional you’ll be to work with.
A professionally produced demo does three jobs at once: it proves your voice is bookable, it shows you understand what finished work sounds like, and it lets your strongest read open the reel in those crucial first seconds when the decision is really made.
Why work with me?
I sit on both sides of the glass. As a working voiceover artist, I’ve recorded for Visa, LEGO, NHS, Mercedes, Direct Line, Global, Epic Games, and Arsenal FC.
So, I know precisely what a booking-worthy read sounds like, because recording them is my day job. As an audio producer, I edit, mix and master every week, from commercials to podcasts.
That's a combination that matters. A studio engineer can make you sound clean; a working voice artist can make you sound castable.
You’ll get honest, practical direction from someone who auditions, books and delivers voiceover for a living; and who remembers exactly what it’s like to record a first demo. You can read how I became a voice over artist if you’d like the origin story (there are fewer radioactive spiders than you’d hope, which is a shame).

Voiceover demo production pricing
Demo production starts from £350 for a single-genre reel, including consultation, the directed session, full production and 3 revision rounds. Depending on which route we take with scripts and a director, the price could go up a bit.
